How to think like no one else

You're smart, a genius even

But you fail to embrace this fact as a general rule.

Things like fear - dishonesty - laziness come with massive opportunity cost:

  • Murdered Momentum
  • Emptied Energy
  • Sunken Sadness
  • Denied Duties
  • Morality Mockery
  • PLUS++

Your mode of being in the world and of seeing yourself in it are imaginary.

But they still determine the rules you play by.

Your actions are based upon your beliefs, some of which were planted in you.

Some of which you programmed yourself.

You have accepted as true a series of ideas, they frame your experience.

You can reframe your experience.

The mind has features, and these features can be trained.

You know this.

Haven't you sucked at almost everything when you started?

Course you did.

Did you get better?

Course you did.

A lot of times, though, you got better at things that don't serve you well.

You get better at what you do and how you do it.

You think what you think repeatedly.

"Why'd you write this book Chance?"

Good question...Chance. (Yes I just broke the 4th wall)

I broke the rule just now.

A lot of marketing guys would say that's foolish.

I did it because I want to get real with you.

I've done a lot of foolish things in my life:

  • Obsessive perfectionism
  • Dishonesty
  • Addictions to drugs
  • Addiction to cigarettes
  • Habitual destructive behaviors
  • Plus++

I don't do those things now.

I'm not perfect, but I'm better than yesterday.

I put the work in today to be better tomorrow.

It all starts in the mind. You can direct much of it.

"How did you do that?

By learning skills and leverage points to reprogram my mind.

Sound freaky?

It is a bit freaky.

You'll learn to fundamentally alter who you are.

And then you'll do it.

This can be pretty frightening to a lot of people.

But there are aspects of your life that you don't like.

There are behaviors you'd like to stop.

There are parts of your personality that you want to change.

"Good." -- Jocko Willink

Here's some of what you'll learn to take control of your life:

  • How to be undeniable
  • A Unique System of Visualization
  • Creating pre-programmed attitude triggers
  • Learn how to learn what to learn
  • Habit interruption and replacement
  • Leveraging Placebo Trickery
  • Writing tools
  • Lots of other mental tools and antidotes

Almost everything in this book is instantly actionable.

Some of these tools make an immediate difference.

Some of them require a longer-term commitment.

All of them require effort out of you.

The more effort you pour into the practice, the more you'll get out of it.

You can't bullshit your way into greatness.

You can't pretend you're doing what you need to do.

You have to commit.

I can tell you this.

The tools in this book have changed my life.

Where once stood a man of sadness and darkness and destruction

Now stands a man of purpose and vision and principles.

Where once was a man angry and resentful at the shackles of the average

Now is a man who has broken free from the chains of mediocrity.

I was sick in my mind and body, erasing myself from existence.

Now I build and create. I learn and grow. I seek and draw closer to mastery.

I've decided who I want to be.

I removed the developmental training wheels.

Then I created my own mental system to stay on the path to excellence.

And I extracted key tools and principles from that process.

I wrote them in this book.

You can decide who you want to be.

You can become unique and exceptional in your bearing and expression.

You can use the tools that I gathered to be free from darkness,

To accelerate your growth and unleash your power.

Best of all, you don't have to fall as far as I did to learn them.

Unless you already have, and even then, I did it so you can do it.

If you do what you're told, you'll get what you're given.

If you decide for yourself, you'll get what you chose
